A downloadable game

Splash

Intro:

This game is all about technique, skill, and creativity. It is perfect for a pool party, or any activity with friends or family, as long as there is a pool deep enough to jump into. The game requires at least one judge, although more are welcome, at least two divers, and a pool. At the beginning of the game, the designated judge picks a trick for the divers to perform to the best of their ability. This can be front flips, back flips, dives, or any other entry into a pool. Scoring is up to the judge as splash size, technique, and flare, can all be taken into account. Each diver gets three attempts to try the trick and whoever performs it best after the three rounds, wins. This game is not restricted to specific dives, as freestyling is also welcome, depending on what the judge decides.

Rules:

  1. This game is to be played at a pool, preferably one that has a diving board, and requires at least three people.
  2. One or more players are to be designated judges.
  3. Two or more players are to be designated divers.
  4. At the beginning of each round, the judge(s) decides a type of trick the divers must perform.
    1. These can include dives, flips, or any other trick the judge(s) desires.
  5. Each diver has three attempts to perform the trick to the best of their ability.
  6. After each dive, the judge gives the diver a score.
  7. Whoever has the highest score at the end of the three turns, wins that round.
  8. There is no limit to the number of rounds played, it is up to the players.
  9. Scoring is subjective and judges can decide what to base their judgements on, as it will vary depending on the jump type.

PlayTest:

After playtesting with my track teammates, we quickly realized the level of strategy that went into each turn. There was quite a bit of helping each other out, and trying to get anyone to perform each trick as perfectly as possible, and when someone was able to perfectly perform it, the entire pool was excited. In the end, the score didn’t really matter, but it was most fun to see someone figure out how to perform the jump. In the end, the game seemed more about developing technique and putting a body in the right position to succeed, rather than competing against others.
